ADONIS PUENTES

Adonis Puentes is certainly a Cuban Sonero for our times. His unique and upbeat melodies have mesmerized audiences and made him a crowd pleaser in festivals and concerts across North America.

Three years after an initial tour of Canada with his brother and father in 1995, Adonis made Victoria, BC his home. Along with his twin brother Alexis (accomplished multi-instrumentalist Alex Cuba), The Puentes Brothers would record their first award winning CD called Morumba Cubana. This was the catalyst for Adonis to record his solo album Vida.  The album is a dance-friendly pulsating collection of original, contemporary takes on Cuban musical tradition; highlighting Adonis’s songwriting skills.

Currently residing in Los Angeles and Victoria British Columbia Canada, Adonis is working as a lead singer with renowned percussionist Orestes Vilató. The opportunity to work with Orestes has allowed Adonis to shine and further his career with a veteran group of players. With an increased profile in North America, Adonis was chosen to participate in the prestigious Java Jazz Festival 2010 in Jakarta Indonesia - joining the likes of Hubert Laws, Kenny ‘Babyface’ Edmonds and Roy Hargrove in the programming.

Inspired by the sounds and culture of Southern California, Adonis is now working on his second album in Los Angeles and will be slated for release early 2011.

Adonis Puente’s music bridges generations and cultures with a charisma and delivery that shines brighter than life in intimate or full-blown arrangements. From solo performances with piano or guitar accompaniment to directing orchestras, Adonis is well poised to be an influential contemporary singer-songwriter from the Latin Cuban tradition.
